Solutions 71 is seeking a Information Systems Engineer III to support a Department of Defense customer. The Systems Engineer will assist the embedded NIWC Pacific USSTRATCOM Engineering Team in the design of innovative and cost-effective mission-relevant solutions including systems engineering, applications, cyber security, infrastructure, life cycle cost estimates, and operational solutions that address USSTRATCOM’s IT Enterprise and NEC operational and technology needs.
Specific Duties / Tasks (include, but not limited to):
- Supports the NIWC Pacific embedded engineering team in the development of integrated, cost-effective solutions that meet USSTRATCOM requirements.
- Supports the creation and the documentation of technical solutions, plus the development of the costing of each for implementation, operations, and sustainment.
- Responsible for providing cost estimates, including market research and Analysis of Alternatives (AoA), for various storage solutions, including disk-based and flash-based storage systems, cloud-based storage services, and virtualized compute platforms.
- Provide accurate and detailed cost estimates for Information Systems (i.e., storage solutions and datacenter infrastructure) projects, including:
- Disk-based and flash-based storage systems (e.g., SANs, NAS) and Enterprise Backup solutions
- Cloud-based storage services (e.g., AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage) and associated IaaS and PaaS constructs
- Storage virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware VSA, Microsoft Storage Spaces)
- Datacenter compute virtualization (CPU, Memory, GPU) to include distributed/virtualized processing (failover to other datacenters)
- Provide technical support and guidance on storage and datacenter infrastructure, including troubleshooting, configuration management, and performance optimization.
- Analyze project requirements and scope to develop cost estimates that meet business needs, to include CAPEX, OPEX, and resource estimation for technology installation/implementation.
- Review technical solutions submitted by other entities regarding completeness, costs, schedules and performances as well as integration with current architecture and alignment with C4IT Roadmaps. Participate in technical reviews, change boards, and productions readiness reviews as assigned by the Government.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of storage technologies, including:
- Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V)
- Storage protocols (e.g., iSCSI, FC, FCoE, NFS, CIFS)
- Storage management software (e.g., EMC Unisphere, NetApp OnCommand)
- Leverage virtualization technology expertise (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) to optimize server utilization, reduce costs, and enhance business agility.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in information systems engineering with a focus on storage and virtualization technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proficient expertise with Microsoft Office suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Familiarity with cost estimation tools and techniques (e.g., Excel, cost estimation software)
- Strong understanding of IT industry trends and emerging storage technologies
- Must possess an Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility
